Elaine Barclay, a resident of Sedona for 28 years, died at her home on Tuesday, March 18.

Elaine was born and raised in Glyndon, Minnesota, the eldest of six children. As a teenager, she worked for Paul and Lorna Miller near Minneapolis caring for their children. The Millers later provided the means for Elaine to attend beauty college.

In 1940, Elaine married Don Patterson in Santa Monica, California. Elaine owned and operated her own beauty salon at that time. Don died in 1965. She later married William Costello. Bill passed away in 1978.

In 1981, Elaine married Joseph Barclay, a well-known tenor. Joe passed away in 2005.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Verna Fox; brothers Clarence and Donald; sisters Gladys and Lillian.

Elaine is survived by stepson Knox Barclay of Ketchum, Idaho; stepdaughter Beth Chavez of Mission Viejo, California; brother Wallace (Dorothy) Fox of Sun City West, Arizona; three nieces; three nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Elaine was a member of the Church of the Red Rocks, and was active in the Eastern Star, PEO, Southwest Cultural Group, and the NARF organizations. She was formerly active in the church choir and God's Clod Squad Clown Ministry. She created many specialized quillows for gifts and fundraisers. She enjoyed golf, bridge, traveling, entertaining friends in her home, and doing volunteer work with the elderly.
