Barbara Jane Wilcox died July 1, 2009 in Sedona at the age of 92 following a short illness.
Barbara was born September 17, 1916 in Pontiac, Michigan, where she grew up in the Franklin Blvd. Historic District. After receiving her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1941, she married Milton L. Wilcox with whom she enjoyed 55 years. Barbara started her career as a dietitian but quickly shifted her focus to loving and caring for family. Later in life she became a volunteer, amassing over 1,000 hours at the Verde Valley Medical Center.
During her life Barbara Wilcox lived on both East and West coasts before settling in Sedona in 1986. Her sense of humor, loving nature and ease of dealing with life's challenges set an example for family and friends alike. She was never afraid to try something new; over her life she played piano, gardened, hiked, ice skated, camped, canoed, danced, water exercised, traveled down under and even rode on a motorcycle.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband Milton and daughter B. Christine Benech. She is survived by her son Milton (Ernie) and daughter-in-law Diane Wilcox of Sedona; son-in-law Bill Benech of Carmel Valley, California; and granddaughters Angela Wilcox of Reno, Nevada and Cara Benech of Carmel Valley California. At Barbara's request there will be no funeral and any memoriams may be directed to the Humane Society of Sedona.
