Clifford Paul Lutz

October 6, 1936 — October 13, 2013

Clifford Paul Lutz, a resident of Sedona, died at his home on October 13, 2013. He was 77.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 6, 1936, Mr. Lutz graduated from high school in 1954. Following graduation, he worked as a carpenter for his brother, who was a building contractor. Mr. Lutz then earned an associate degree in electronics before joining Sperry Rand Corporation as a customer engineer in the early days of mainframe computers. In 1960, Mr. Lutz moved his family to Northern Virginia where he worked as a sales representative for the Federal Systems Division of Unisys Corporation in Washington, D.C., and later in McLean, Virginia. He retired from Unisys in 2000 after 40 years of employment. Even after his 2002 move from Northern Virginia to Sedona, Mr. Lutz remained close to his children and grandchildren and delighted in being called Pop and Granddad.

Surviving him are his wife Cathryn (Whitesell) Lutz of Sedona; daughter Kathleen (Lutz) Sansone of Nokesville Virginia and son Mark Clifford Lutz of Fairfax Virginia (wife Karen); sister Loretta (Lutz) Granger of Las Vegas Nevada; grandchildren Jennifer Anne Lutz and Bryan Christopher Lutz, both of Fairfax; and first wife Loella (Molly) Lutz of Gainesville Virginia.

Mr. Lutz is predeceased by his sister Pat (Lutz) O'Brien of Las Vegas Nevada, brother Edward Leo Lutz of Eighty-Four Pennsylvania, and parents Leo Edward and Anna (Chak) Lutz.

During his time in Sedona, Mr. Lutz enjoyed hiking among the red rocks with his wife and walking with his beloved Jack Russell Terriers, first Maggie and then Casey. He could also be found on the tennis courts or in the fitness center of the Hilton Spa, where he developed many friends, including special friends Roger and Janet Mansoldo.

For the past few years Mr. Lutz valiantly fought advanced prostate cancer but maintained a graceful spirit of determination. He will be remembered for his kind, quiet, loving demeanor, and he leaves behind many wonderful memories.

There will be a brief gravesite gathering on October 26 at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, Virginia " time to be determined " probably 11 a.m.

Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Sedona.
