Phoenix

Donald Kind Holiman, 79, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at home in Phoenix, AZ, surrounded by family.

Don was born on September 27, 1945, in Tuscaloosa, AL, to Max Holiman and Edna Slayton. A lifelong lover of the outdoors, he was a forever Boy Scout – curious, kind, and always chasing adventure. He attended five high schools due to frequent family moves, serving as class president at three schools, student body president in his senior year, and played football along the way.

He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and later attended Cal State Fullerton where he was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. Though he did not complete his degree, he remained a lifelong learner with a passion for people, ideas, and the natural world.

In his professional life he served as a stock clerk, a reforestation planner, and a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and Boy Scout Den Leader, always finding ways to give back.

Don was known for his generosity, kindness, humor and quick wit. His last words were used to tell a joke. Before any road trip or major life change, Don would say, “the great adventure continues.” And now, he continues his great adventure.

He shared 21 years of marriage and another 34 years of enduring friendship with Audrey Broome Holiman, who remained a steady and loving presence in his life.

He is survived by his children, Levi Kind Holiman and Leah Love Holiman, who will forever carry his laughter and his love.

Don was laid to rest in Sedona Community Cemetery on April 22, 2025.
