Sedona, AZ - A Celebration of Life service for Knud Christian Stobbe, MD, will be held at on October 4, 2014, 11:30 am, at Christ Lutheran Church at 25 Chapel Road, Sedona Arizona 86351 Reverend David and Chaplain Gwen Brandfass, officiating. Dr. Stobbe, 85, died Sunday, August 31st due to stomach cancer.
He was born August 30th, 1929 in Stettin, Germany. He is a survivor of World War II in Germany with his mother and his older brother, Juergen.
In 1955, he graduated with a medical degree from Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany. In 1959, he received his 2nd medical degree from the University of Louisville (KY) Medical School. Thereafter, Dr. Stobbe was accepted as a resident at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, where he trained under numerous surgeons, among them staff surgeon, Thomas T. Myers, MD, his future father-in-law.
During his residency, he met his wife, LeeAnn Myers. They were married on August 12, 1961.
In 1965, Dr. Stobbe relocated to Milwaukee, WI where he began his practice as a general/vascular surgeon. That same year, he received a Master of Science in surgery from the University of Minnesota. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1969.
During his 34 years of service, he was Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at St. Francis Hospital. He also practiced at St. Lukes Medical Ctr. and West Allis Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Stobbe became a naturalized US citizen in 1963. Immigrating to the USA was the highlight of his many achievements and blessings in his life. He dreamed the American Dream and lived it to its highest potential.
He was active in a variety sports: both alpine and Nordic skiing, tennis and running.
He was an avid marathon runner who finished 21 Boston Marathons and 60 other various marathons and half-marathons, throughout his running endeavors, prior to developing heart problems.
Dr. Stobbe retired in 1999 and relocated to Sedona, AZ in 2004, with LeeAnn.
Due to congestive heart failure, Dr. Stobbe received a heart transplant on September 6th, 2006. Post transplant, Dr. Stobbe started to run races again, including several Sedona 5K Runs.
On August 31, 2014, Dr. Stobbe crossed the final finish line of his life in his Sedona home, surrounded by his beloved family, 1 day after his 85th birthday. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife LeeAnn , 3 sons, Eric, Kai (Diana) and Tor (SuJa) and his only daughter, Christina (James), grandchildren, Kailee , Alexxis , Keegan and Angela.
