Earl Hugh Mcleod

November 30, 1937 — January 7, 2021

Earl, husband of Caryl for 56.5 years, father of Mickey, Stephen and Scott, grandfather of Amanda, Mathew, Nick, Jamar, Samantha, Kyle and Zach and great-grandfather of Abbie, Olivia and Grayson; passed on January 7, 2021.  Earl, born in Detroit, MI was raised there until temporarily locating  with relatives in West Hempstead, NY where he met Caryl in 1955 at W. Hempstead High School.  Earl enlisted in the US Air Force on his 18th birthday in 1955 and was engaged to Caryl in March, 1956. They were married in March, 1957 and lived in Bermuda for the next 2.5 years. In 1959 the family moved to Columbus, OH for five months then spent 2.5 years in Michigan and were reassigned to Amarillo, TX in late 1962. In 1964, following Earl's return from Vietnam, they were assigned to Hahn AB, Germany and resided in a small village for three years. In late 1967 through early 1969 Caryl and the boys stayed in Yonkers, NY while Earl was in Vietnam and joined him at Ramstein AB, Germany for the next four years. Following a 1973 assignment in Orlando, FL, the family relocated to Chandler, AZ in early 1974.  During his 20 plus years of service SMSgt Earl was awarded 14 ribbons including the Bronze Star, three Presidential Unit Citations, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 8 battle stars, three Air Force Outstanding Unit Citations with V for his Vietnam service and the Meritorious Service Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal for his Malaysian and Ethiopian activity. He retired from the USAF in early 1976 and accepted employment with Northrop Corp. The family spent the next 14 years in Orange, CA then downsized to a beach condo in Dana Point and a golf course condo in Palm Desert. After retiring in early 1995 Caryl and Earl played golf, visited children, cruised and traveled extensively for the next seven years. Caryl convinced Earl that Sedona was the perfect climate and they relocated to the Village in early 2002. Caryl the backbone of our entire family for three generations passed in October, 2013; Earl passed in January, 2021.
