Edward W Modzelewski

January 13, 1929 — February 28, 2015

Edward W. Modzelewski, Big Mo, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at his home in Sedona, Arizona. Ed was born in West Natrona, Pennsylvania on January 13, 1929 to Joseph and Martha Modzelewski. An outstanding football player at Har-Brack High School, Natrona Heights, PA, he went on to become All-American at University of Maryland, MVP of the 1952 Sugar Bowl and first round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. After the 1952 season he served two years in the Air Force and was then traded to the Cleveland Browns where he played from 1955-1960. Ed became a successful restauranteur, opening Mo & Juniors Steakhouse in Cleveland, Ohio and founding the Beef Corral franchise. Eds career in sports and business was followed by a wonderful retirement in Sedona, AZ. His positive nature, kindness, humility and gratitude for the life he enjoyed were evident to everyone who knew him. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; brother, Dick; sisters, Florence Nowicki, Betty Logan; children, Michael, Nancy Giacobbe, Bruce, Scott and their mother, Mary; dear son-in-law, Chris Giacobbe; daughters-in-law, Karey and Mimi; grandchildren, Lance, Anthony and Jennifer. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph and Gene. Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
