Longtime Sedona resident George Hodgins passed away at his home on November 12, 2009. Mr. Hodgins was born February 12, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Chicago and Los Angeles.
George served in the US Navy during WWII, attached to a torpedo bomber squadron aboard the USS Princeton. He was awarded the Air Medal for his meritorious service in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
Following the war, George returned to civilian life and attended San Jose State College in California where he met his wife June Buschke. They were married on July 18, 1947.
The Hodgins family moved to Sedona in 1966. George and June established the Girl Friend dress shop in Uptown Sedona. George enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of both the Sedona Racquetball Club and Poco Diablo.
George Hodgins is survived by his wife, June; son, Eric; grandchildren, Brandon and Rachel and great granddaughter Jessica.
His ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sedona Community Center or Northern Arizona Hospice.
