George William Cammack died November 28, 2010 in Verde Valley Medical Center from complications of pneumonia. He was born September 26, 1930 in Newton, Iowa to Hobart Zenus and Zillah Ann nee Willits Cammack. He spent 3 years in the U.S. Navy before earning an Industrial Administration degree from Iowa State University. After a brief stint with Firestone Tire and Rubber in Cedar Falls, Iowa; he worked for nearly 32 years at Collins Radio, later Rockwell Collins, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Roene Mae, nee Burghardt on July 1, 1961 and they lived in Marion, Iowa for 35 years. They raised sons; John M. (Birmingham, Alabama) and Thomas H. (LeClaire, Iowa) who share their lives and love with Ari and Tammi respectively. He is also survived by his brother Hobart (Jane); aunt Evelyn Cammack; sister-in-law LuAnn Berthel; brother-in-law Veryl (Pat) Burghardt and numerous nieces, nephews, and their children whom he loved and enjoyed. In 1996, George and Roene relocated to Sedona, Arizona.
George enjoyed any music and especially earlier jazz and classical music. He sang in the Collins' Men's chorus and the choir of any church he joined. He was a 50 year member of Trojan Grand Lodge in Marion, Iowa. He enjoyed woodwork and built numerous items for his home as well as for friends and family. He was active in St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and Christ Lutheran Church in Sedona, Arizona. He especially enjoyed the property committee but as his strength failed, he found new passion for the last and the least people of the world and so worked on the Social Concerns Committee.
A public memorial service will be at 1:30PM, December 11, at Christ Lutheran Church, 25 Chapel Road, Sedona, Arizona 86336. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christ Lutheran Church, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-3678.
