Funeral services for Harold E. Bud Greer, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Val Vista Lakes Stake Center, 1005 N. Voyager Dr., Gilbert, AZ 85234. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am prior to the services in the Relief Society Room. Interment will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Citizens Cemetery, 1300 S. San Francisco St., Flagstaff, Arizona.
Bud (84), husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 18, 1932 in St. Johns, Arizona to Harald B. and Mildred Butler Greer. A fifth generation Arizonan, Bud was very proud of his pioneer ancestry. Greer Arizona was named for his great grandfather. He grew up in St. Johns where he spent most of his early life working on the family farm and cattle ranch. After graduating from St. Johns High School he attended Northern Arizona University graduating in 1954. Bud later received his MA and EDS degrees in Educational Administration. He received the NAU Distinguished Citizen Award in 1993. His lifelong and eternal companion Sady Mae (Hale) was also from St. Johns. They were married in the Mesa Temple in 1954. Following college Bud was proud to serve in the United States Army Security Agency. He was trained at Fort Ord, California and went to ASA School in Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He spent a tour of duty in Korea. Following his military service he worked in the Flagstaff Arizona School District as a teacher and administrator for 32 years. He served as principal of Emerson, Sechrist and Killip schools. He also served in numerous local and state education organizations including President of the Flagstaff Education Association and the Flagstaff Administrators Association. He worked 10 summers for the U.S. Forest Service on fire control. He was active in community organizations, including 30 years as a member of Rotary and President of the Flagstaff Rotary Club. He was a lifetime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and received a Silver Beaver Award from the Grand Canyon Council. Bud loved the youth and spent most of his life helping to make them better citizens. Bud and Sady enjoyed traveling and visited every state in the union and over seventy countries on five continents. Bud, with Sady was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was blessed to serve in various positions including: Bishop of the Flagstaff Ward, President of the Flagstaff Stake, Stake High Council, President of the San Antonio Texas Mission (to over 500 full-time missionaries), Patriarch in two stakes and an Arizona Temple ordinance worker.
Bud is survived by his daughter Denise Greer Koenig of Gilbert; son Royce B. Greer (Rhonda) of Winslow; daughter Jacqueline Lynn Greer of Winslow and daughter Leslie Greer Kauo of Gilbert, fourteen grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his sister Colleen Drain of St. Johns and his brother Paul Greer of Mesa.
