Ian Stewart Cameron - Obituary

Ian Stewart Cameron was born October 3, 1939, in Queens, New York. He died July 5, 2017, at Hospice House in Cottonwood, surrounded by family and friends after a short 6-day stay, following a long disability and a hard-fought battle against neck cancer.

Ian is survived by his wife Robin, his daughter Susanna, son-in-law Marc DeFranco, his 16-month old grandson Anthony Scott, and niece Harmony Brooke Hefer.

Ian grew up in southern California, graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1961; he raced cars with the Sports Car Club of America, including the first race at Phoenix International Raceway. He worked in insurance before moving to Sedona in July 1971 with his wife Robin. After volunteering for the Sedona-Oak Creek Fire Department, he became an EMT, the third Intermediate EMT in Arizona, and a certified paramedic in 1979. He was the first paid paramedic in what became the Sedona Fire District and responded 24/7 from home the first three years of his service. He retired in April 1998 and went on to serve on the SFD Board.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 16, at Bacon Rind (Indian Gardens) Park at 11:30 a.m. followed by a reception at the park. Contributions in Ians memory can be made to the Sedona Fire District or to the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, a disease Ian overcame for most of his life.
