It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Andrew Close on December 16, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on March 25, 1941, in Massachusetts, Jim was raised in Arizona and , after marrying his life-long partner and love, Ellen Walsh, The settled in Idaho, where they built a busy life together and raised their four children.
Jim's love of science led to his career as a nuclear engineer at Idaho National Laboratory. Jim was a man of boundless love, compassion, and an unwavering sense of social justice. He took on the role of "dad" to many, extending his love and guidance to many.
Jim found joy in sharing his passions with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a deep appreciation for nature. Whether hiking, skiing, boating, or fishing, he had a love of the natural world and loved to share it with others. Jim coached soccer, hockey, and was president of the local figuring skating club, supporting his children in their own passions.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Ellen Walsh Close; his children, Mary Ellen McKenna (Pat McKenna), Tamara Close, Jamie Close (Bret deZordo) and Mark Close; and his grandchildren, Andrew Fischer and Donovan Duiven.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held after the holiday season.
Jim's legacy of love, support, and deep appreciation for the beauty of the world will live on in the hearts of all who knew him . He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
