James Harold Sullivan, 67, died May 18, 2011 at his home in Sedona. He was a resident of Arizona for 48 years, the last 40 in Sedona.
Born in Boston, he grew up in Hull, Massachusetts. Following high school he attended the University of Massachusetts and received an Associates Degree in Wood Technology. He then moved to Flagstaff to attend what would later become Northern Arizona University and received his Bachelors Degree in Forestry and later a Masters in Business Administration.
While at NAU he met Pat Wallace and they were married in Sedona on September 23, 1967. He enlisted in the Navy in 1967 and after completing officer candidate school in Pensacola, Florida, became an Ensign. During his tour in the Navy, he worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington DC and left the Navy as a Lieutenant. Jim and his wife returned to Sedona in 1971 and in 1973 he and his partner started SEC, Inc. which is still in business today. Jim served on various city and county committees, designed 8 subdivisions in Sedona and has done environmental consulting work throughout the United States. He continued to work throughout his illness.
Jim was a member of the Mid-Day Rotary Club for 29 years and was a past president. He embodied the ideals of Rotary and service above self. He was also a member of the Sedona Elks Lodge.
He was a avid outdoorsman and loved to go fishing in Mexico and British Columbia with friends. He loved camping and hunting with his wife and friends.
Jim was a loving husband and a great friend who touched the hearts of everyone he met. He was a very caring individual who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Pat of Sedona; brothers John A. Sullivan of Virginia Beach, Jeri Sullivan of Hull, Massachusetts, and Joe Sullivan of Sacramento; two nieces; three nephews; and many friends.
