Joyce Balkman-Waggoner

May 5, 1930 — August 16, 2011

Joyce Balkman-Waggoner, age 81, formerly of Culver City, California, passed away August 16, 2011, at her home in Sedona, Arizona with her family by her side. Born May 5, 1930 in Blue Island, Illinois, she moved to Culver City where she grew up and graduated from Hamilton High School.

Joyce worked for the former Ralph's Grocery Store in different positions, and then worked for Pacific Telephone Company as the Supervisor of a Credit Center, retiring after 22 years. Married to Sid Balkman for many years, they did everything together, from motorcycle riding to gold panning. Joyce was Sid's other half. After his passing, her retirement and raising 3 children, Joyce moved to Sedona where she met and married Donald Waggoner in 1996.

Joyce was an active Associate Member of the Sedona Elks Lodge #2291 and an active Member for the past 13 years of the Winslow Elks Lodge #536. She took great pleasure in chairing and assisting in Youth Activities, writing articles for the Elks "Chimes" newsletter, and in being Don's First Lady in everything Don did for the Elks Lodges throughout the State of Arizona.

Family can say that Joyce tried it all, and did it all. She was a world traveler who lived life to the fullest as a sassy, vibrant woman who wasn't afraid to say what she thought. Family and friends will miss Joyce's spunky personality, her compassion and care for others, as well as her stories of days gone by. Our family doesn't believe that death is the end, so this isn't goodbye - it's until we meet again.

Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband Donald Waggoner of Sedona; brother Robert Schultz of Irvine, California; daughter Susan (Donald) Bowman of Bonita, California; son William (Denise) Fender of Pahrump, Nevada; daughter Joan (John) Ingle of Newark, Delaware; son David (Shawn) Waggoner of Phoenix; son Donald (Cheryl) Waggoner of Chandler; daughter Flor Balkman of Culver City; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Internment is private. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to be given to the Arizona Elks Youth Camp Fund, C/O Arizona Elks Foundation, Joyce Balkmann-Waggoner Memorial Fund, P.O.Box #12668, Tucson, Arizona 85732-2668.
