Margaret Anne Kulik

November 1, 1929 — December 8, 2022

Margaret Anne Kulik (Peggy), passed to heaven to meet her husband on December 8, 2022.

She was born 1 November 1929, in Arlington, Massachusetts, to Douglas & Margaret (Cady) Miller.

Peggy has lived in Sedona, AZ since 2011 and has loved every minute of it. She also loved everyone she shared time with. If you knew Peggy, you knew she loved going to her favorite restaurants and taking helicopter rides. She took over 40 people out for a helicopter ride over Sedona and made about 21 trips.

Peggy was in the very first nursing school class at Boston College. It was a very comprehensive 5-year course. She earned a B.S.N. degree. Peggy met the love of her life at Boston College. Her love was Mike (Frank) Kulik of Chicopee, Massachusetts. Mike earned a B.S./B.A. degree in Industrial Management as a distinguished Military graduate (ROTC) and received a regular Army commission in 1951. Among his many honors, he later received his Master of Science in Management from the University of Arizona. When Mike returned from a 19-month combat tour in Korea, they were married October 31, 1953. They traveled all over the world and while in the military they moved 22 times in 27 years. When Mike & Peggy retired from the military Mike was a Colonel.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; James and Douglas Miller and the love of her life and soulmate: Mike Kulik. Peggy will be forever missed and is survived by her brother Gerard Miller of Millersville, MD and her five children; Mary K. Barker, of Boise, Idaho, (born at Fort Meade, Maryland) (spouse: Albert Barker), Patricia K. Noga, of Urbandale, Iowa, (born at Nürnberg, Germany)(spouse: Andrew Noga), Michael F. Kulik, of Westerly, Rhode Island, (born at Nürnberg, Germany)(spouse Elizabeth Kulik), Stephanie K. Vnuk, of Sedona, Arizona, (born at Fort Sill, Oklahoma)(spouse-deceased-John Vnuk), and Mark S. Kulik, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, (born at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas)(spouse: Patricia Kulik).

Peggy and the Col. were blessed with 17 grandchildren: Christopher & Simon Barker, Abigal Barker DelFico and Drax DelFico, Katherine Noga Ellsworth and Lt. Col. Justin Ellsworth,

Douglas and Melissa Noga, Captain Nicholas Noga, Jason and Brooke Kulik, Sarah Kulik, Victoria Vnuk, Andrew Kulik, Taylor Kulik and Ryan & Emily Kulik, as well as 9 great-grand children; Emarisa & Oriana Barker, Cyro and Keani DelFico, Andrew, Mike & Olivia Ellsworth and Noah and Sebastian Kulik. Additionally, there is one more on the way.

Peggy’s nursing career came in handy for not only her 5 children but for many friends in the military. This was true especially when they were stationed in Germany. Many of the other mothers often came to her for advice for their children. She also worked as the assistant director at a nursing home in Indiana, while her husband taught Military Science at Notre Dame. Peggy was an exemplary wife and mother. As an example, even with 5 children at 5pm the house was clean to perfection (no toys to be seen), the kids were dressed, and dinner was ready. She was an amazing packer- often times there wasn’t much notice to move to the next assignment, and the whole house was packed and ready to move in no time. Peggy had to manage the house and children when Mike was in Germany, while he was in Vietnam for 2 tours. Some of the fun assignments were when Mike was The Division Chief of Training Command for ROTC at Fort Monroe, Virginia, A Department Chair and Professor of Military Science at the University of Notre Dame, and had a three year tour where he was concurrently the senior Army Advisor to the State Adjutant General of the Massachusetts Army National Guard and senior Advisor to the commanding General of the 26th Yankee (Inf.) Division, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with one brigade in Connecticut. The tougher tours were during wartime in Korea and Vietnam and the stress of working twice at the Pentagon and the long commute. Peggy’s husband-Mike had many, many honors in his career and she was his right hand in achieving them. She was an amazing support for not only her husband, but the kids as well. Always encouraging them to do whatever they really wanted to achieve and helping them go after with confidence anything they wanted to.

Peggy was a devout Catholic and was always involved in church wherever she travelled. Her involvement included starting many Catholic Women’s clubs. Peggy loved helping others and donated her time throughout the many years of her life. Peggy had many hobbies and talents. She loved to bake and cook, especially for her family. She loved crafts and especially decorating the house for the holidays, particularly Christmas. Later in her life she started a home décor company with 2 of her daughters and it was called “Scents of Thyme”. She taught her children to sew and some to crochet. She made some of the most beautiful dresses and always looked elegant. Peggy played the piano beautifully. She could read music and play the piano by ear. Her favorite song to play was the Artillery song. She was an excellent bowler in the military women’s bowling league. She at one time took up curling while living in Connecticut. Over the years she donated a lot of her time to church events and helped children with special needs. She was always available for her children and grandchildren and loved whenever they could visit. The “Family Unit” was the most important thing to Peggy. Here in Sedona, she pulled many people into the fold of her family and loved every one of them. Her most favorite thing to do in Sedona was to take anyone who wanted, to go on a helicopter ride over Sedona. Peggy survived 2 strokes and breast cancer and never complained. She did her work to recover from the strokes and was very lucky in her recovery. She made beautiful friendships and treasured them all. She will truly be dearly missed by so many!

Peggy and the Col. retired in 1980 after 30 years on active duty. The family went to live in Norfolk, Connecticut for the next 22 years. While there, they were very active in Immaculate Conception Parish, as Eucharistic Ministers and Parish Council members. In June 2004 Mike and Peggy Moved to Meridian, Idaho and became members of Holy Apostles Roman Catholic Church. In September of 2011 Mike and Peggy made their final move to Sedona, Arizona and became members of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church. After Mike’s passing and his beautiful funeral at Immaculate Conception Church in Cottonwood, Peggy loved and preferred to go to church there. Mike passed in 2012 in Sedona with Peggy by his side. Peggy will be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery, in D.C.
