Marian Elizabeth Wolcott Charles, 89, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Sedona, Arizona on Sunday, February 3rd, 2019. Born and raised in Tallmadge, Ohio, she was the daughter of Arthur and Marian (Sperry) Wolcott.
Marian graduated Valedictorian of Tallmadge High School class of 1947, earned a bachelors degree from the University of Redlands and a masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
She worked as a civilian employee for the U. S. Army in San Francisco as a logistics expert for most of her career before retiring to Sedona.
Marian was active in many organizations including Descendants of Henry Wolcott, Sedona Welcomers and Great Decisions of Sedona. A self-taught gourmet cook, she delighted in hosting dinner parties. She was an enthusiastic traveler whose journeys included touring Europe, the Far East, Africa, New Zealand, Australia, South America, and cruising in the Arctic and on numerous occasions the Antarctic. A cat lover, she was fascinated by the animals she observed in her travels. She excelled at bridge, becoming a Life Master. She also supported the arts and enjoyed ballet, symphony, opera and other performances first in San Francisco and then Flagstaff.
Marian is survived by daughter Stephanie Jeanne Charles and son Harry Kenneth Charles as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Marian's honor to the Humane Society of Sedona, 2115 Shelby Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336.
