Marianne Lieurance, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at her home in Sedona, Arizona. Preceded by her parents, Frederick & Dorothy, & first born son, Jamie. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim, her sons, Richard & Robert, daughter-in-law Karen, and her 3 granddaughters, Madi, Jacqueline, & Caroline.
She was born in Pueblo, Colorado in April 1930. Her love of animals began at a very early age, perpetually collecting strays & giving love to her new furry family members. She grew up with horses & an affinity for riding…from galloping racing trains to horse shows.
She has always been a voracious reader & loved the art of words. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in teaching & went on to teach middle school & high school English for 38 years! After moving to Tucson in 1954 to take a position with Tucson Public Schools, Marianne fell in love with EVERYTHING southwestern…which went on to include the love of her life, Jim. They married in 1957 & the two of them created a beautiful family. Jim & Marianne celebrated 63+ years of marriage & an unending love.
Marianne loved the colors of the southwest and her exuberant outfits always expressed her personality. She had a perpetual passion for antique Indian jewelry & loved to research & learn about the artists, their craft, & the turquoise mines. In retirement she taught courses sharing her knowledge and passion. Whenever you see Indian jewelry, a hummingbird, or a butterfly there is no doubt you will feel a little ray of Marianne shining.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given ‘in loving memory of Marianne Lieurance’ to the humanesocietyofsedona.org
