Mary Alice 'Mousie' Staub

April 12, 1926 — October 8, 2019

Mary Alice (Mousie) Staub passed away peacefully October 8, 2019 in Sedona, Arizona. She was born April 12, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Harold E. and Edna Callender Brown. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alfred (Fred) Staub, infant daughter, Leslie Staub, Sister, Barbara Brown Blust, and nephew, Bradley Brown.
Mousie graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1948 and was a life-long member of Delta Zeta Sorority. It was her joy to teach science in Indianapolis, Indiana for several years. She married Fred in 1952 and his medical career took them to Denver, Co in 1954. After 40 years in Denver, they moved to Sedona, Arizona for health reasons. Mousie was a Charter and Honorary Member of the Sedona Area Garden Club, a member of the Westerners Hiking Club, Audubon of Mystic Hills club, and the Church of the Red Rocks.
Mousie and Fred were soul-mates in their love of all things outdoors, such as hiking, skiing, bird watching, and travel. The two loved adventure and experiencing new cultures and people. To illustrate this point, Mousie hiked down the far western end of Grand Canyon, known as Havasupa, with her hiking club to celebrate her 80th birthday, even riding horseback into the canyon. That same year she travelled to Churchill on Hudson Bay in Canada to see the polar bears. On that trip she stood on the back of a dogsled with the musher for the whole ride. Mousie loved animals and always cherished the memory of three special kitties Cleo and Beggar and Socksie. She also loved to read and had many wonderful books in her collection.
Mousie is survived by her brother, Richard (Dick) Brown (Katie), nieces Elizabeth Jones (Tim), Kathleen Blust Gonzales (Fred), nephews Paul Blust, John Blust (Maria), David Blust (Cindy), 11 great nieces and nephews and many treasured friends in Denver and Sedona.
We are grateful for the wonderful care and love she received from Harmony Home Care (Mary T. Pearson) and caregivers Barbara Anthony, Pauline Goseyun, and Patricia (P.J.) Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Red Rocks on Tuesday October 29 at 2:00 p.m. Her ashes will be placed in a columbarium at the church. Memorial gifts can be made to: Sedona Area Garden Club, c/o Barbara Otter, 70 White Tail Drive, Sedona, Az, 86351. Please write Mousie Staub on memo line.
