Paul Lindberg

Longtime Sedona resident Paul Lindberg passed away in his sleep after recent medical complications. Born in Iron Mountain, Michigan, he had a love of adventure and the outdoors. He grew up in Michigans Upper Peninsula and Minnesota. In 1956 he married Phyllis Thiel, after graduating from college in Minneapolis with a degree in geology which would provide him with a career exploring for economic minerals and a lifelong hobby.
They lived in big cities, mining towns and bush camps before settling in Vancouver (Canada) where they had two children " Karen and Paul, Jr. His work continued to take him to remote corners the world, from Alaska to Tasmania (Australia), and from Saudi Arabia to Baffin Island (Canada). After they moved to Sedona in 1971, he worked in Jerome where he became an expert on massive sulfide deposits. Phyllis preceded him in death in 2013.
A much-sought after speaker, Paul freely shared his knowledge on geology, archeology and local hydrology. He taught and led field trips for college students, professional organizations, local enthusiasts, and even NASA scientists, and built several ingenious models to show structural changes in local geology. He remained an active consultant and author until his death.
In recent years, he shared his travels and adventures with partner Eileen Wyke who brought him much joy. Their adventures were cut short due to Pauls untimely death.
He is survived by Eileen who remains in Sedona, his daughter Karen who lives with husband Ed in Anchorage, AK, his son Paul Jr. who lives with wife Kim in Timber, OR, grandchildren Sophia and Isaac who are both students at Gonzaga University and a large extended family.
A memorial service will be held at the Sedona Performing Arts Center on September 23 at 1pm.
