Robert Edward McManus, 93, of Sedona, died September 27, 2009.

Bob was the oldest of four boys raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He went to parochial grade schools, Central High School, and Creighton University. In Omaha, he became interested in photography and became the president of the photography club. The photography club had meetings at the Joslyn Art Museum and it was there that he met his future wife Mary, who was the assistant to the curator and in charge of scheduling meetings. She was "Miss Pollard" and he was "Mr. McManus" until the day he asked her to go on a picnic with him. They were married six months later and celebrated their 67th anniversary in 2007.

He was inducted into the U.S.Army in October 1943 and was sent to Officers' Candidate School in Texas. He served until 1946 and then took a job in management at Sylvania in Emporium, Pennsylvania. He was very active in the Emporium community and made such significant contributions to Boy Scouting in the area that he was ultimately given a Silver Beaver award, the highest service award for adults in scouting at the time. He and Mary joined the local theater group had roles in a number of plays. While in Emporium, Bob took up golf, and he was an avid golfer until very late in life.

Bob and Mary moved to Seneca Falls, NY in 1965 and then to Norwalk, Connecticut in 1975 to be near GTE headquarters in Stamford. His work as International Materials Mannager led to a lot of travel, and he and Mary combined his travels abroad with a vacation trip as often as possible. They first came to Sedona in 1980 and fell in love with the area. They moved to Sedona in 1981 and bought their dream house right on the golf course in the village.

Bob was preceded in death by Mary in 2008. He is survived by daughter Katherine (Gary) Noll, of Northwoods, Illinois; son Dennis (Cindy), of Downington, Pennsylvania; brothers Leo (Lillian)of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Charles (Jerry) of Princeton Junction, New Jersey; and Thom (Marty), of Durham, North Carolina. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, (Erika (Jayson) Webb, Alyssa (Don) Williams, Jeff McManus and Audrey McManus), and by 4 great-granddaughters, (Chloe and Emma Williams, Madison and Amelia Webb).

A memorial service will take place Saturday, November 7th, 2009, at 1:00PM at Sedona Winds, 405 Jacks Canyon Road, Sedona, Arizona 86351.
