Robert Terry Buhrman, 80, a long-time Sedona resident, passed away in the early morning hours of August 21, 2017, the day of the Solar Eclipse.
Robert was born to Richard T. Buhrman and Margaret Peggy Martin Buhrman in September of 1936 in Kokomo, IN, where he spent the first 10 years of his life, before moving with his mother to St. Augustine, FL. where he had many adventures, including occasionally being found in the alligator farm after hours. After the death of his grandfather, he and his mother, to be near his grandmother, moved back to Kokomo, where he attended high school, graduating in 1954. He then attended Wabash College for 2 years before enlisting in the US Army in 1959. He attended Army Language School in Monterey, CA after which he was posted to West Berlin, Germany.
Upon discharge from the Army, he returned for a short time to Florida before moving to Greenwich Village, New York, where he pursued a career in the graphic arts field. There he met and married Brooke (Judy) OMalley, the mother of his daughter, Amelia. The young family lived in Queens for a short time, before moving to FL, where he followed his mother into the journalism field, becoming news editor at the St. Augustine Daily Record, editor of Gainesville Weekly, and the Coco Beach Daily Papers edition of the fledgling USA Today, before moving to Southern California and becoming Senior Editor for 8 years at Los Angeles magazine.
Upon retirement, he traveled the world, eventually settling in Sedona, AZ, where he pursued his interest in writing"continuing work on several novels"and movies, attending the first class of the Zaki Gordon Film Institute. He compiled footage for several documentaries, as well as writing a script for a feature film. He spent the last 40 years of his life as a great seeker of spiritual truth, and was in the process of compiling his own book of spiritual teachings when he passed.
Robert was one of those people who knew how to appreciate and uncover the mysteries of life. He was loving, loved and will be greatly missed.
He transcended while his daughter, Amelia, and his cherished companion of 16 years, Peggy Sarah Aardsma Fread, were by his side.
