Sarah "Sally" Canright Gorski

August 29, 1929 — January 19, 2025

Sarah “Sally” Canright Gorski, 95, passed at her home in Sedona, Ariz. on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025. Born Aug. 29 1929, in Gary, Ind., Sally was the daughter of Warren R. Canright and Phyllis E. Post Canright of Chesterton, Ind., the second of their four children.

Sally grew up in Chesterton, where her father was publisher and editor of The Chesterton Tribune, owned and operated by the Canright Family for many decades. Sally and her siblings all worked at The Chesterton Tribune at one time or another. In the Chesterton High School Class of 1947, Sally was very involved in many school activities as a cheerleader, in student government, school publications and yearbook. After attending Purdue University where Sally received a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Education, she served many years as an educator in Cincinnati, Ohio, Chicago, Ill., and as a professor at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Ind.

In 1968, Sally married Stanley Gorski of Chicago, Ill. They lived in Oak Lawn, Ill. and Ogden Dunes, Ind. For more than three decades, Stan worked as an architect and Sally as an educator of children with special needs, before building their home in Sedona during the mid 1990’s. They both lived the rest of their days in their home in Sedona. Stan passed at home in October 2020.

Through the years, Sally and Stan were very present in the lives of their family attending weddings, graduations and special birthday and anniversary celebrations. They spent much of their time traveling the country to visit family and friends, collecting art and going on adventures with their “Jeepers Creepers” group in Sedona. They also enjoyed entertaining family and friends who came to visit them at their home in Arizona, which Stan designed. Sally and Stan attended Christian worship and Bible studies at The Church of the Red Rocks.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Stanley Gorski of Sedona; her brother, Warren H. Canright, her sisters-in-law, Betty Canright (Warren’s wife) and Rosemary Canright (John’s wife), all of Chesterton; her brothers-in-law Tadeus Gorski (and his wife, Wilma), Joseph Gorski and Edward Gorski (and his wife, Mary), all of Chicago; nephews, Robert Canright and Dexter Gorski; and niece, Diane Gorski Costello.

Canright Keller of Greenwood, Ind., and brother, John Canright of Chesterton; as well as nieces and nephews, David Canright, Tom Canright, Jane Canright, Steven Keller, Brad Keller, Ann Keller Skinner, Ellen Keller, Collin Canright, and James Canright.
