Obituary for Virgil E. Boyd

Virgil Edward Boyd was born July 8, 1912 on a farm near Benton, Kansas. He was the youngest of nine children.

The following year the family moved to Iowa, buying a farm near the small town of Blencoe. Virgil attended grade schools and high school in the Blencoe public schools, and was graduated in 1929. He enrolled at the American Business College in Omaha in the fall of that year, and was graduated in January, 1931. On March 1 of that year he began work in the accounting department of General Motors Acceptance Corporation.

In 1937 he resigned from GMAC and became office manager and comptroller of the Omaha branch of Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. In 1944 he was transferred to the Detroit home office as central office manager.

In 1962 he resigned as Vice-President and Sales Manager of what had become American Motors Corporation and accepted a position as Vice-President of Sales and Marketing of Chrysler Corporation, with sales supervision over all automotive dificions of the company. In December of 1966 he was elected President of the company, and in 1970 Vice-Chairman of the Board. He retired in September 1972.

He and his wife, Berniece, moved to Litchfield Park, AZ, where they resided for twelve years before moving to Sedona.

While in Detroit he served on the Board of Trustees of the Grace Hospitals, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alma College, and served on the Boards of Parke-Davis Drug Company and the Budd Company.
