Walter Wesley Hamilton, a 10-year resident of the Sedona community, was born November 3, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri, and passed away at home in Sedona on Tuesday morning, August 11, 2009, with his family by his side. Walter was an extremely warm, vibrant and extroverted person who tended to leave an indelible impression on the people he met and the lives that he touched. He was an active member of the local Sedona community, making meaningful contributions to its intellectual and cultural life.
Before retiring to Sedona, he was for many years a therapist in Pasadena, California, as well as a psychologist with the Los Angeles Unified School District. Previously, he worked as a psychiatric social worker and as a high school history teacher. He was a distinguished alumni of the University of Missouri - Columbia. He received his Master's degree from Washington University, St. Louis, and after moving to Southern California, received a Ph.D from the University of Southern California.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Eleanor of Sedona; his three children, Stuart, Kurt, and Sonya of California; and 3 siblings: Carlton Hamilton (Fannie) of Chicago, Illinois, Waymon Hamilton (Jackie)and Teresa McGhee of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
