William 'Bill' Uhrig

November 2, 1928 — September 13, 2021

William “Bill” Uhrig of Sedona, Arizona passed away peacefully with family at his side in September 2021.  He was born in California to Richard and Margaret Uhrig. He is survived by his 6 children Emma Johnson, Maryanne Welton, Sally Albert, Elizabeth Uhrig, Heather Riley, and David Uhrig; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchild.

Bill had accomplished many achievements during his 92 years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah and a Master of Arts from the University of Rhode Island. He served in the Navy for over 20 years, including during the Vietnam War and in the Korean War. He earned his status of Lieutenant Commander and served as the Executive Officer on the destroyer, USS Charles H. Roan. After the Navy, he worked for the State of California for 25 years with the Department of Health Services.

Bill moved frequently due to his years in the Military, and eventually settled down for a few decades in Sacramento, California. He travelled extensively throughout his lifetime, having been to every continent (yes, even with the penguins), and every state within the United States. For the past few years he lived in Sedona, Arizona, admiring the incredible history and landscapes.

Dad was a quiet and stoic man. He rarely ever spoke of himself and his achievements. However, he spent the latter couple decades of his life volunteering and donating to the Make-A-Wish foundation in both California and Arizona. This gave him great pride and purpose. He sponsored 13 children’s wishes in Northern California and continued to donate to support children’s wishes in Arizona.

Although Bill is survived by his first love, Leona, he is a widower of nearly 20 years by his second love, Lynn, who he now joins in Heaven. Next year would have been Bill and Lynn’s 50th wedding anniversary.

If you would like to give to Bill, he would ask you to please make a donation to your favorite charity.
